Answer

Some of the main causes of birth injury during the labor and delivery process are the failures to properly staff the units with individuals trained and capable of responding to signs of fetal distress.  The failure to respond on a timely basis to signs of fetal distress can have devastating and lifelong consequences for the baby and for its family.

While in utero, the baby communicates through the fetal heart monitor.  If the monitor is ignored and the baby is in distress, the baby can be deprived of the oxygen it needs.
