$10k Chicago roof failure. Inspection report proved membrane unbonding. Contractor hired lawyer. Home Repair Act option?
Asked in Chicago, IL | July 17, 2026How do I find legal help for a $10,600 residential flat-roof dispute? Contract was paid in full, upfront. A certified, independent structural inspection confirmed a roofing membrane defect, unbounding, and not sealed properly. The contractor failed to achieve thermal/material adhesion on the modified bitumen membrane seams. The roofing membrane can be lifted by hand. This installation failure has caused active water infiltration, resulting in structural ceiling and interior paint damage to my kitchen. We issued a formal notice citing violations of the Illinois Home Repair and Remodeling Act, demanding a full refund. The contractor has panicked and retained defense counsel, who just reached out requesting our evidence. I need an attorney to evaluate our statutory leverage under the Home Repair Act, take over negotiations with opposing counsel, or represent us in civil action. I am highly organized and have the contract, the inspection report, and the photos ready.
