Can I stop debt collectors from calling in Pennsylvania?

Yes — in Pennsylvania, you do have the right to stop debt collectors from calling you, and many people don’t realize how much control the law actually gives them.
Under federal law, once a debt collector is told in writing to stop contacting you, they are generally required to do so. After that point, they may only contact you to confirm they will stop or to notify you of a specific legal action. They are not allowed to continue calling simply to demand payment.
Even without a written request, collectors are prohibited from harassing you. Repeated calls meant to annoy, calls early in the morning or late at night, calls to your workplace after being told not to, threats, or abusive language are all unlawful. If a collector crosses those lines, they may be violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, and you may have legal remedies available.
