The penalties for a DWI in New York can vary. A plea to the charge is an A misdemeanor that could carry up to a year in jail. The most common penalties however are forfeiture of your license for a period of time, fines, an alcohol assesment with potential classes to help that's a problem and other driving related court mandated classes.
