The police made me sign a forfeiture of my friend's car and I'm not the owner. Can they do that?
Asked in Jeffersonville, OH on January 18, 2026 Last answered on January 20, 2026They had no RAS, no probable cause, they pulled me over for a hunch and kept my friend's vehicle. Had me sign the forfeiture on the forfeiture paper. I have it says that I am the owner but I obviously am not.

Free Consultation If the car is titled in someones name other than yours, you cannot forfeit a vehicle that you do not own nor have a legal interest in. Ohio is a title state. If its titled in your friend's name, you cannot forfeit his or hers interest in the car. The title owner would have the right to make a claim to recover the vehicle.
