Most lawyers with experience in family law have dealt with tracing issues. I suggest you look for someone who has been practicing exclusively in family law for at least 10 years. Once you find a lawyer you like, you will need to hire a forensic accountant to perform the tasks associated with the tracing (they do the actual groundwork on documenting the tracing); your lawyer should be able to suggest someone with whom they have worked in the past.
In addition to hiring a lawyer, you might need to retain the services of a forensic accountant if the tracing is more complex or you think it will need to be proven at trial. Another important consideration before spending money on a forensic expert is whether there is any source that you can actually recover the disputed funds from (i.e. retirement, bank accounts, home equity, offset from a support obligation). If not, your attorney might advise you against spending funds to trace.
