Since you have already been served, do not ignore the papers while you continue looking for an attorney. In Colorado, you can file a Response to the Petition using JDF 1015, and the Colorado Judicial Branch has self-help resources that can walk you through the process.

Since Colorado Legal Services and Metro Volunteer Lawyers have not been able to place your case, I would next contact the Colorado Bar Association and search its lawyer directory for a family-law attorney who accepts alternative fee arrangements. Ask specifically about a reduced retainer, payment plan, or limited-scope representation. Limited-scope representation may allow you to handle some parts of the case yourself while paying an attorney to advise you, review documents, negotiate, or represent you for particular issues.

Also contact the court's Self-Help Center. Colorado has self-represented litigant coordinators who can help you understand the court process and identify the correct forms, although they cannot give legal advice.

If your income is low enough, you may also qualify to have court filing fees waived by submitting JDF 205.

With three children involved, I would make every effort to at least obtain a consultation with an experienced family-law attorney before agreeing to parenting time, decision-making, child support, maintenance, or division of property and debt. Even if you cannot afford full representation, an attorney may be willing to help you on a limited basis.
