What to do when you have hired the wrong law firm for your case?

Asked in Rosemount, MN on September 1, 2026 Last answered on October 9, 2026

I am disabled and have been receiving permanent spousal maintenance since my divorce in 2010. Ex-husband wants to end alimony due to early retirement. I am completely overwhelmed and seem to have hired the wrong attorney. She and her staff make me feel unheard and/or misunderstood. They are making decisions that make me feel bullied and steamrolled. I do not think they are even reading my emails. What can I do?

You can always seek new counsel if you are not feeling confident in the representation you are currently receiving.  I encourage you to seek consultations to find a different attorney that feels like a better fit.  Ask about communication styles, experience with this type of issue, and what options they see being available to you.  Best of luck in your search.
