In Oregon, is it possible to get representation for a medical malpractice lawsuit when you have a criminal background?
Asked in Woodburn, OR on March 15, 2026 Last answered on May 12, 2026I previously had a law firm look at my case and determined from their medical professionals that it was credible. However, once they did a background check, they dropped my case and said that I would not be able to find representation because I have a criminal background, which is not related to my medical malpractice lawsuit.

Medical malpractice cases are very difficult and expensive so lawyers have to be very selective with the cases they take. Whether a conviction matters, generally, depends on what the conviction was for, how long ago it occurred and whether it will come into evidence in a case.
