Michigan does not allow you to buy coverage AFTER an accident!
Michigan auto "No-Fault" insurance covers certain benefits for injuries from and related to a motor vehicle collision. Before 2019, these policies had unlimited medical coverage. Now, Michigan residents can choose different tiers for their personal injury protection (PIP) benefits.
The most common benefits are:
- Wage loss payments for the first 3 years up to 85% of gross pay
- Coverage for medical expenses
- Payment for nursing-type services called "attendant care"
- Payment for household services up to $20/day
Michigan no-fault policies may also include other benefits, like uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage, collision coverage and "mini-tort".
