Will I have to register as a sex offender if I am convicted of a sexual offense in Minnesota?

That's a complicated question but the answer is generally yes. However, it depends on what you were initially charged with and what you were ultimately convicted of. For example, a 5th Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct charge does not require registration. However, if you were initially charged with a higher level offense for criminal sexual conduct and ended up pleading or being convicted of a 5th degree criminal sexual conduct, then you may still need to register.
I am afraid I have to give the “typical” lawyer answer- it depends. If you are charged with an offense requiring registration under Minnesota Statute 243.166 and you are convicted of anything arising out of the same set of circumstances, then yes. Most sex offenses do require registration but it depends on which statute you are charged under.
