I was sexually abused by the guard during my time in custody. Can I do something?
Asked in Riverside, CA | February 14, 2026During my time in custody, I was sexually assaulted on multiple occasions by a staff member/guard. The guard used his position of authority to engage in unwanted sexual contact and sexual acts with me, including inappropriate touching of my genitals and forced anal sexual assault. The abuse caused significant emotional and psychological harm. I experienced fear, shame, confusion, and trauma that has continued long after my release. Since leaving custody, I have struggled with anxiety, depression, anger, difficulty trusting others, and intrusive memories related to the abuse. I did not receive trauma-informed care related to the abuse, and my mental health deteriorated as a result. The trauma from what happened to me in juvenile hall has had a direct and lasting impact on my relationships and overall functioning. The sexual abuse I experienced has caused long-term damage to my mental health, stability, and quality of life. I am seeking accountability for the harm done to me and justice for the abuse I endured while in custody as a minor.
