In Florida, Worker’s compensation medical benefits are to be provided to allow you to recover from your work related injury. If you have a permanent injury pursuant to the opinion of an authorized doctor, than you remain entitled to continuing medical care, as long as your case is open, throughout your lifetime. You maintain the pendency of your case by seeking medical care from an authorized provider at least one time every 52 weeks. It is not based on the calendar year, but begins to run on the date you last saw your physician. For instance, if you last saw your doctor on 1/10/16, than you must see the doctor again by no later than 1/9/17 to keep your case open.

You can washout your entitlement to future medicals when you and the insurance company agree on a lump sum amount. The timing of the resolution of your case should work around your life and needs.
