I have paid 18K so far to my attorney and he claims the judge has not yet seen any motions he has brought forth

Asked in Tinley Park, IL on May 26, 2026 Last answered on July 2, 2026

This has gone on since December and he says it requires more money to get my husband to stop controlling all the marital funds and stalking me. How much more should I pay to have a motion seen by a judge? Is this normal?

This could be normal. Discovery usually occurs before temporary motions are heard. Discovery is the exchange of documents to clarify each parties finances and positions . Discovery can consume a lot of time and money.

You should be able to check to see when the motions were filed and the last order should indicate a date for the motions to be heard or for something to occur before the motions can be heard.

I would recommend that you attend the next court date so you can see exactly what is happening in your case.
