Question: Can I sue my employer for unpaid wages?

Asked in New York, NY | March 10, 2025

I work at a restaurant and have not been paid for several hours of overtime that I worked. I’ve asked my employer about it, but they haven’t resolved the issue. Can I sue my employer for these unpaid wages?

Not being paid wages that you have earned, can be grounds for a lawsuit.  You could try to get compensated by requesting your pay directly from your boss again.  You may get a lawyer to help you with this, but if it is only a few hours, hiring a lawyer may not make sense for you.  A lawyer can ask questions to determine if this is part of a larger problem with your employer.
