Filing for N-400, and can we travel outside the country while the application is in process?

I need help reviewing the N-400 and confirming which documents to send. Also, we plan to visit family outside the country, so we would like to know whether I can travel while the application is being processed.

Answer

Sometimes travel is not recommended depending on where the person is in the application process and if there are complications in the applicant's history. Such factors may include past physical presence, the way they obtained their green card, any past arrests or criminal convictions, or other factors. An attorney can only advise on travel if they have reviewed all of the detailed history.  We generally suggest that a person not travel without obtaining a personalized, full attorney consultation outside of this platform.
