  I am a 53-year-old school district custodian with 28 years of service who was coaxed into an unnecessary surgery to remove a 26-year-old implantable collamer lens (ICL) and replace it with a cataract lens. During the procedure, part of my eye was injured, and an iris prolapse occurred. While the surgeon verbally admitted this complication to me and my 30-year-old son, it was entirely omitted from the official operative report, which falsely claimed "no complications."

  A surgical suture leak was identified but improperly managed with an undersized bandage contact lens (BCL), allowing the eye to remain decompressed for 10 days until a larger BCL was finally applied. This series of events resulted in permanent iris prolapse, severe iris thinning, and debilitating day blindness, reducing my best-corrected vision in my surgical (left) eye to 20/80 and my right eye to 20/150. Other ophthalmologists have since reviewed my case, deemed the surgery too high-risk for corrective action, and only provided DMV paperwork, because I am now completely unable to drive or work.
