Who do I talk to about filing a civil lawsuit for a car accident? What steps do I need to take? How much will it cost to file?

I was hit by a drunk driver that was coming the wrong way on the highway. My vehicle is totaled, I’ve missed almost 4 months of work. I have multiple injuries (multiple fractured ribs, fractured wrist, blood in my chest and I had to get a chest tube, back injuries). What are my next steps for legal action?

You should speak with a personal injury attorney in Indiana. I would recommend one experienced in serious auto collisions and insurance litigation who can evaluate liability, preserve evidence, and pursue claims against the at-fault driver and any available insurance coverage. The typical process in Indiana includes an initial consultation (usually free), investigation and collection of medical and crash records, submitting insurance claims and a demand package, and, if necessary, filing a lawsuit within Indiana’s two-year statute of limitations.

Most attorneys handle these cases on a contingency fee (often around one-third of the recovery), with filing fees and case costs advanced by the firm and reimbursed only if you recover. The cost of filing the lawsuit is generally around $186, plus the cost of service on each defendant.
