How do I gain legal custody of my granddaughter? Daughter is unstable. Granddaughter lives with us full-time.
Asked in Lafayette, IN | December 11, 2025My granddaughter has lived full-time with us since she was born. She is 7 years old. My daughter has been in and out of our house for the past three to four years. She is unstable and inconsistent with her financial support. Our daughter has allowed us access to school and medical decisions, but we need to make it more permanent. We would like to be her primary parent. Unfortunately, we are not able to pay $3-5,000 for a lawyer. We think this will be fairly simple and not contested. What are my options?

Help me with a civil matter that involves my daughter, who was molested
Asked in Evansville, IN | March 12, 2026My daughter was molested at 6 years old, and the person has since been tried, convicted and sentenced to 30 years in IDOC. also his wife is charged with neglect, as her granddaughter reported it to her that he touched her and she did not report it to the proper people. had she reported it, it very likely would not have happened to my daughter. Do I also have a civil case?

Asked in Indianapolis, IN | January 29, 2026I was hit by a drunk driver that was coming the wrong way on the highway. My vehicle is totaled, I’ve missed almost 4 months of work. Bought SUV and friend titled it in her name temporarily. She now refuses return and demands $7k. Have texts as proof. What can I do?
Asked in Plymouth, IN | April 24, 2026I purchased a 2010 Land Rover via a private sale. Due to a license suspension, I entered a verbal agreement with a friend to have the vehicle titled and plated in her name temporarily. She agreed to hold the title "in trust" until my license was reinstated. I paid the full purchase price and provided $700 for taxes and fees. She took possession of the vehicle to go to the BMV and has refused to return it. She is now claiming sole ownership because the title is in her name. She has made multiple written demands for money (most recently $7,000) to return my property and has threatened to seize my computer equipment. I have Marketplace messages and bank records showing I am the original buyer, extensive SMS history explicitly showing her agreement to the temporary arrangement, and her subsequent demands for money (extortion). What are my next steps?

Can a person legally be picked up and taken to county jail before the court has processed a warrant for the officer?
Asked in Winchester, IN | January 26, 2026Arrested when checking in for weekly house arrest meeting. Probation called sheriff's department and told them they put in for a probation violation and court was processing it. Sheriff arrested me and took me to jail where they could not even book me in because there was no warrant issued yet. Took approximately 42 minutes before court processed and sent warrant to the county jail so I could be booked in. Probation violation was filed without an attached sentencing order because the court had neglected to file the sentencing order.
When I finally got in to court for my Probation violation the new judge dismissed all charges because there was no sentencing order. That day the judge filed the sentencing order which was 11 days before my full sentence of 6 months house arrest and 18 months Probation was due to be completed. The judge who originally started and sentenced me on my case was asked to resign to avoid other complications in his life. My case was used 3 times in paperwork to prove the judges wrongdoing and reason for him to resign. What can I do? Is there any legal standing I can file against the county or courts/sheriff's department?

Are a parent coordinator and guardian ad litem supposed to be working together in a family law case?
Asked in Indianapolis, IN | March 17, 2026I’m fighting a custody battle, and a magistrate was fired off my case for unethical behavior: doing favors for the dad, and she hired a parent coordinator before she was removed, they both went to the same school. The PC working for Kids' Voice of Indiana has sided back and forth with mom and dad, but has never wrote the real stuff the dad has done to mom and daughter. She always includes mom, so he’s not held accountable. He and his girlfriend called DCS on mom, it was unsubstantiated. The daughter admitted to suicide attempts and thoughts because of dad and girlfriend, nobody has removed her from their care. They have put a GAL in place to determine custody, but she works in the law office with the PC also. I said it is conflict of interest. Nobody is doing anything. What do I do? Dad withheld my daughter, and the judge didn’t find him in contempt; it traumatized my daughter. The dad lets us talk 1 time a week, and the PC is aware of all of this, and when he withheld her, she didn’t say anything. Dad and girlfriend alienate us, and there’s proof in email and of how the GAL, PC, and dad all talk without me. Help!
