Looking to sue my contractor for a bad job

A good starting point is to organize everything related to the project. Gather the written contract, change orders, invoices, proof of payments, permits, inspection reports, text messages, emails, photographs, videos, and any written estimates for correcting the work. Create a simple timeline showing when the work began, what was promised, what went wrong, when you complained, and how the contractor responded.
It may also help to get an independent opinion from another licensed contractor or qualified professional describing what was done improperly, what code or workmanship issues exist, and the estimated cost to repair or complete the work.
Review the contract for notice requirements, warranty provisions, mediation or arbitration clauses, and any deadline for bringing claims. You may also consider sending a written demand that explains the problem and gives the contractor an opportunity to resolve it.
Please note that this response is provided for general informational purposes only and is not legal advice. You should contact an attorney for a consultation after gathering all documents and evidence related to your claim to determine whether filing a lawsuit is appropriate and whether any deadlines, notice requirements, or other limitations may apply.
All the best,
Priscilla Schoendorf.
