Can a restaurant tenant with no insurance sue a landlord?
Asked in Oakland, CA | April 12, 2026My dad has rented the restaurant for over 10 years, pays $3,600 a month, and the landlord still hasn’t fixed the roof leaks that soak the kitchen every time it rains, causing ongoing business losses and unsafe conditions. The landlord has sent people out before, but the repairs are never complete, and the leaks always return. The place has no insurance, he believes; that's why he's trying to see what can be done by finding him a lawyer and getting this concern answered. Looking to get a response asap.

Do I have a case against my landlord for habitability issues? How do I get let help?
Asked in El Cajon, CA | April 28, 2026Physical Injury: I sustained significant bites due to an unaddressed pest infestation on the property. Environmental Hazards: Visible mold growth and persistent dampness pose a direct respiratory risk. Safety Breaches: Multiple fire code violations have been identified, compromising the building's safety. Due to these ongoing issues and the hostile nature of current management, I am requesting a full refund of all associated costs and immediate remediation of these hazards.
