Car accident and I received a DUI. My insurance had lapsed.
Asked in Statesville, NC | October 29, 2025Car accident on July 22nd, I received a DUI. My insurance had lapsed as well. But I wasn't at fault; the tractor-trailer ran me off into the guard rail. He was carrying an oversized load, and his follower wasn't right behind him. I have a witness who was following me, and another witness who stopped. I spoke with the insurance company before I put myself into rehab, and the lady I spoke with stated the driver admitted it was his fault. Now they don't want to produce the phone conversation and want me to pay $35,000, and the police report says their estimated damage was $120.00, and mine was 15,000. I know I was intoxicated, but do remember.

Home severely damaged by Hurricane Helene. Contractor wants more $, but will not provide proof of expenditures to date.
Asked in Hendersonville, NC | November 6, 2025My home was severely damaged. We resided in temporary locations for 13 months, which were covered by our homeowners’ insurance. However, our lease expired, and we had exhausted all our housing funds. Our contractor had assured us that the house would be ready. The house was not ready. No power to three rooms, construction tools and refuse scattered everywhere, kitchen was not finished, no sink, running water, or countertops. During the reconstruction, we repeatedly requested a detailed account of how he had utilized the funds, but we never received one. Now, he claims that he has run out of money because we chose replacement items that were excessively expensive. However, the truth is that our choices were based on the allocated funds provided by the insurance company. Our verbal agreement with him was that if we upgraded an item, we would be responsible for paying the difference. We have not received an invoice or statement detailing how the funds were spent. Since moving in, we have encountered numerous issues, including electrical, furnace, unfinished kitchen and bathrooms, and many other problems. What kind of attorney should we look for?

I am a 70 yrs. old woman who gave $30,000 for a business without signing any papers. Have I been scammed?
Asked in Denver, NC | February 13, 2026I was told that I would be paid monthly to repay myself and make a profit. I was supposed to be included in every aspect of the business, including meeting her bookkeeper and her lawyer. It's been 5 months, and I have not seen any money. The only proof I have is that my name was on the money order I gave to the previous owner, and I have a receipt for that.
