What are the best resources for a pro-bono divorce attorney in IL?
Asked in Chicago, IL | May 28, 2026I have suffered years of financial and marital infidelity. There are no funds for an attorney right now and I'm aware I can just file myself. However, it is a layered situation that I think I need to make sure I am protected in the divorce and want to consult an attorney. I'm looking for a reputable attorney that has a budget set aside for pro-bono cases like this. I have many ducks in a row with a list of categories that need to be covered. I have already reached out to my husband via email with some back and forth on details we need to agree on. I just need someone to look things over, tell me what I may be missing for mine and my children's protection financially and with future decision making, ect. Along with help on how to file and what paperwork to use to best suit my needs. I'm finally ready to take this step and part of it is because recently there has been more financial infidelity and I think it's best to separate from this person legally. I need some pro-bono advice from someone that knows what they are doing in IL. Thanks

I have paid 18K so far to my attorney and he claims the judge has not yet seen any motions he has brought forth
Asked in Tinley Park, IL | May 26, 2026This has gone on since December and he says it requires more money to get my husband to stop controlling all the marital funds and stalking me. How much more should I pay to have a motion seen by a judge? Is this normal?

Can my ex sue me over things he has paid for over the course of relationship?
Asked in McKinney, TX | March 22, 2026We met four years ago, and quickly became a couple. Over time, it became abusive and messy and toxic, which is the reason why I ended our relationship this last month. Unfortunately, we have one month left on our shared apartment lease and are living that out as well we can. As far as I am aware, I am not responsible for a lot for his debts regarding his credit cards, his car, or the loss of savings during the relationship. His abuses have escalated to threatening me with court whenever I disagree. I am responsible for a lot of what he's asking for. While I am more than willing to pay shared household bills, I have missed over the last four months due to job issues and move-out costs, he seems to think I owe him more, and he is actively pressuring and scaring me into paying more than I am responsible for. Can he take me to court?
